My Fellow Adjuncts:

The AIU (Adjunct Instructors Union) was formed in 2006, 12 years ago, because administrators were making decisions on adjuncts’ behalf that had nothing to do with our interests or concerns.  Adjunct pay was abysmal and there were no benefits. Until 2006 adjuncts at Prairie State College did not have a voice. Now we do.

It is a slow process, but the union has made progress. Under union contracts our pay has increased (18% in the first contract that was negotiated by AIU). Contract negotiations have provided us with opportunities for professional development, paid sick days, some consideration of seniority, and a visibility on campus.

The executive board members of the AIU want to make more positive in this summer’s contract re-negotiation.  As AIU executive board members, are willing to demand more for adjuncts. We are willing stick our necks out to let the administration know our worth. However, the AIU board is only ten members. We are dedicated and committed, but without the support of our members and the PSC adjunct community at large, we are weak, and the administration knows it.

If you are in support of this union, please contact your president or vice president and let us know. Without you, we are limited. We need your support. We need to hear from you. We need you to become a member of the union if you are eligible. If you are already a union member – we need to know we are in solidarity. Without solidarity, the AIU executive board’s efforts will be futile.

Please contact us today to show us your support. Call, text, email— just let us know you are there and how you support our efforts.

In solidarity,

President AIU – Cydney Williams, cydney.williams@gmail.com, 708-577-3164

Vice President – Cecil Giggy Wagner, giggy_wagner@hotmail.com, 224-250-3740
